About Eyelid Surgery
The eyes are a beautiful facial feature that deserve to be shown off, but sometimes excess skin around the eyes can create a tired or aging look that can be unflattering. Houston, TX board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Edward Lee, offers blepharoplasty, known as eyelid surgery, to lift and elevate the skin above or below the eyes for a natural, more “alert” look. Countless men and women receive eyelid surgery to correct puffy bulges or saggy eyelids. Dr. Lee understands that your unique biology and ethnicity produces an individual makeup that sometimes creates unwanted effects. That’s why at Nuveau Plastic Surgery he offers both upper and lower blepharoplasty, as well as specialized eyelid surgery known as Asian blepharoplasty.
This cosmetic procedure is popular among both men and women. During the initial consultation, the treatment options will be discussed based on the symptoms presented. Generally, ideal candidates suffer from excess, hanging skin and folds above their eyes, or bloated, puffy skin below. These conditions can cause vision impairment, which can hinder your ability to accomplish certain everyday activities. If you have excess hanging skin and/or a drooping upper eyelid, or bulges and bags under your eye that result in a tired, older appearance, blepharoplasty can correct this and give you a more youthful appearance.

"I had a tummy tuck with a hysterectomy, at age 58. I never would have thought of doing anything for myself, on the suggestion from my gyn I saw Dr. Lee. Dr. Lee did an excellent job and above all of my expectations. I am ever grateful for Dr. Lee, the TT has been life changing for me. My only regret is I didn’t do it sooner. He will be my doctor for any future procedures."- D.C. / Google / Apr 25, 2019
"Dr. Lee took care of the follow-up excision of a mole my derm had removed for a biopsy. He and his staff were friendly, personable, and I felt well-cared for. They all made sure I knew what was going to happen during the procedure, and ensured I was comfortable the entire time. Dr. Lee will be my go-to plastic surgeon from now on!"- L.M. / Google / Apr 11, 2019
"Dr Lee is very calm, with exceptional listening skills. He performed a small surgical procedure ( the tiniest incision ever) I could not be happier with the direct honest way of managing the expectations. A a lot of plastic and cosmetic surgeons are overselling / overpromising their results but not dr. Lee- a refreshing find. Highly recommend."- C.M. / Yelp / Mar 31, 2019
Plan Your Procedure
During blepharoplasty, general anesthesia or IV sedation is used. This procedure may be done on the upper eyelid alone, or the lower, or both during the same surgery. The approach for both the upper and lower are similar in nature, which is the removal of any fatty tissue, as well as excising any loose skin that may reside on or near the eyelid.
Upper eyelid surgery is performed to eliminate hanging folds of skin that impair vision, and creates a more flattering eyelid appearance. During an upper eyelid surgery, a small incision is commonly made in the natural creases of the lid to remove excess fat and saggy skin.
Lower eyelid surgery is used to reduce and improve puffy or bloated skin underneath the eyes. During this procedure, an incision is made just below the lower lash line so that fatty tissue can be removed and the skin lifted and tightened to create a flatter, smoother surface. In some cases, where volume is depleted, a filler will be injected to add volume for additional softness.
What to Expect
Eyelid surgery can take up to 2 hours depending on what is being addressed and if both eyes are being treated. After surgery, you should allot several days to rest and avoid strenuous activities. A cold compress and pain medication can help reduce discomfort and swelling. You may experience dry eyes following surgery, but this normally subsides after 2 weeks. The results from upper eyelid surgery can last a decade or longer, while lower eyelid surgery produces outcomes that can last years longer. Although eyelid surgery corrects droopy and bagginess above and below the eyes, it does not stop the aging process and does not eliminate dark circles under the eyes. However, there are nonsurgical treatments that can help reduce dark circles, such as laser treatments and chemical peels.
