About Abdominoplasty Surgery
For both men and women, loose skin and excess fat in the abdomen, no matter how hard they try and lose it, can be a challenge and a constant source of frustration. Pregnancy, weight loss, and aging are the most common reasons why an individual may not be able to reclaim or attain a tight, slim abdomen. Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that has successfully transformed the stomach area of countless patients. Houston, TX board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Edward Lee, performs tummy tucks that vary in scope based on how much loose skin and fat is present. It provides immediate results and allows patients to achieve the tighter, slimmer look they want.
Tummy tuck surgery can be performed on both men and women. If you have loose or hanging skin, isolated pockets of fat, and excessive skin wrinkling in the abdominal region, this surgery can help restore a tighter figure. It is important that you are at a healthy weight and have realistic expectations. Abdominoplasty is not a surgery to help you lose weight. It is a skin tightening, body contouring procedure that addresses loose skin. If your abdomen has good skin laxity, but you are still not satisfied with its appearance even after you have tried diet and exercise, you may be a better candidate for liposuction. If you are a woman considering this procedure, we recommend completing all pregnancies so that the surgical outcome is not comprised with a new pregnancy after surgery.

"10 days post “mommy makeover” and have to write a review because of how smooth the process was and how wonderful Dr. Lee is. Great bedside manner and superb skill level. You can tell he takes pride in his work and strives to get his patients the best possible outcome. Recovery process has been smooth thankfully. I was back to work 1 week post surgery. Also, Dr. Lee really listens to your concerns and works with you as a team. He even called me over Christmas to review a post op concern I had emailed him about. Eva in the office is also wonderful. "Did an amazing job! I went in for fillers while I friend went to get a mole removal. Not going to lie I did have a lot of swelling which freaked me out but after about a week there was no more swelling and after the first few weeks everything just balanced so beautifully. You can't tell that I've had anything done and my face looks a lot more symmetrical than it did before. My face looks more youthful and I love it! My friends mole removal went great for him. He says he can't even notice a scar! Ill definitely be a repeat customer!"- B.L. / Yelp / Jun 08, 2019
Plan Your Procedure
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. There are several methods to consider when performing this surgery. The incision length and shape is chosen based on the amount of skin that needs to be removed. Some candidates with extensive loose skin may require a full (or extended) tummy tuck, which places the incision from hipbone to hipbone just above the pubic region. Others, for example those who have minimal skin laxity, but enough that is bothersome, may be better suited for a mini tummy tuck. This produces a much smaller incision that is less invasive, but large enough to create the tightening necessary. During the procedure, excess fat and skin is removed, the underlying tissues are pulled tight, and sutures or skin adhesives are used to close the incision.
What to Expect
After your tummy tuck surgery, you will be sent home wearing a compression garment to help control swelling. You will find that it will be difficult to walk or stand straight for a few days as the incision heals. But within a few days after surgery, you should be able to walk without a problem depending on how invasive your surgery was. Most patients are able to resume light activities within 2 weeks. Exercise can begin around 6-8 weeks. The area surrounding the abdominal section will feel tight for several months, which is normal. It takes several months for the incision to heal and for the surgical results to take on a normal look and feel. The good news is that you will see your results immediately and will love your slimmer, tighter figure.
