About Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing by Sciton® is a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that uses pulsating beams of light to remove damaged skin layer by layer. The treatment is performed to reduce facial lines and wrinkles, as well as diminish skin irregularities, such as acne scars, blemishes, pigmentation, and other flaws. Also referred to as a laser peel, laser skin resurfacing is an effective treatment for patients desiring a softer, clearer, younger complexion. Depending on the condition of the skin, the type of laser used will be determined accordingly. There is some downtime associated with most laser skin resurfacing treatments, which can be discussed during the initial consultation with Houston, TX plastic surgeon Dr. Edward Lee. Feel free to contact Nuveau Plastic Surgery for incredible laser skin resurfacing treatment in Houston, TX.
Our in-House Lasers
Our Houston, TX plastic surgery office is proud to offer state-of-the-art laser treatments for our area patients. Our advanced Sciton treatments are suitable for the face and body and may include the combination of technologies to treat a number of skin issues. This unique approach is effective and preferred by many patients because it cuts down the downtime associated with full ablative laser treatment but is more effective than the non-ablative method, which in many cases can take multiple treatments for patients to see lasting, noticeable results. The Sciton laser treatments we offer include:
Halo™ – As the world's very first hybrid fractional laser, Halo delivers non-ablative wavelengths to provide patients with dramatic results without discomfort or downtime. Halo targets the surface and subsurface of the skin to reduce brown spots and improve skin texture and tone.
Contour™ – Widely regarded as one of the safest laser skin resurfacing treatments, Contour's energy can be customized to the depth needed to achieve your aesthetic goals. By stimulating the production of new collagen, Contour treats moderate to deep-seated wrinkles, scars, solar spots, and poor skin tone.
Profractional Peel™ – Profractional laser energy creates thousands of micro-injuries in the skin, which work to stimulate the production of collagen. As the body heals, the skin is smoothed and plumped and fine lines and wrinkles are reduced. Most areas on the body or face can be treated with this laser peel.
MicrolaserPeel™ – This procedure removes a very thin layer of skin on the outermost parts of the treatment area with great precision. Using a beam of light that is scanned over the treatment area, MicrolaserPeel reduces wrinkles, improves tone, and rejuvenates the skin for a clearer, firmer complexion.
There are many factors to consider when choosing which laser peel is right for you. Laser skin resurfacing is geared toward patients who are unhappy with their overall complexion. If you have sun-damaged skin, acne scars, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, redness or pigmentation issues, this treatment can help correct these imperfections. In addition, it works great if you have scaly patches, rough texture, or other irregularities. This treatment is not recommended if you have very dark skin or active acne. In addition, it is important to understand that there is downtime associated with this laser therapy. Some patients, depending on the condition of their skin, may need up to 2 – 3 weeks to recover.
Our laser skin resurfacing treatments can correct:
- Uneven skin tone
- Poor texture
- The appearance of fine lines
- Sun damage
- Visible signs of aging
- The appearance of stretch marks
- The appearance of scars
- Sun damage located on the chest or other body parts
- Age spots
Laser Skin Resurfacing Reviews
"I have been going to Nuveau Plastic Surgery forever and if i could give them 6 stars I would. Dr Lee is super qualified and his credentials are stellar. He graduated from Baylor, was asked to teach and worked in South Korea /Asia where customers are super demanding and its so hyper competitive (plastic surgery capital of the world). He also volunteers to help children in need by fixing their cleft lip/palate as part of doctors without border type program. Randy Rakes is amazing. His background in medspa practice and his passion for bringing the latest technology to bear has helped the practice be leading in technologies and services to help me look my best. Halo, CoolSculpt, Ultherapy, Micro needling ...Joanne is the nurse practitioner in charge of botox, fillers and lasers and she is both medically trained but also has the artist's touch of using the menu of services to make sure you look beautiful, fresh and radiant and not overdone. She is amazing. Most importantly they are customer service oriented and lead with love and kindness. Run don't walk to make an appointment....Give them a chance to make this your best "looking" life."- H.L. / Google / Aug 24, 2020
"Dr Lee has amazing bedside manner and has a very calm disposition that makes going to the doctor so much easier! He actually cares a lot about his patients and I would fully recommend him for any treatment."- E.C. / Yelp / Nov 18, 2020
"The entire team at Nuveau is far superior than any other medical spa in Houston. I’ve had several facial treatments with Teta and my acne is non existent now. She’s a pro at removing whiteheads. Anywhere else I’ve had a facial, I always break out, but never with teta because she sanitizes everything and knows exactly how to extract. She’s very gentle and leaves my skin glowing.Dr Lee is amazing!! He has done two small procedures for me and the areas looks perfect. Randy is great too, extremely knowledgeable about cool sculpting and laser treatments for stretch marks."- N.J. / Yelp / Mar 12, 2021

"I’ve visited several plastic surgery offices and medspa’s in the area over the years for lasers, microneedling, injections, Botox and Nuveau stands out with the level of patient care, consultation, offerings, and technical skill. I recently had a Halo laser treatment with Randy as the practitioner and I am grateful for the care & attention paid to my comfort level and individualized experience that was consultative vs obvious up-selling."- D. / Google / Mar 25, 2022
Plan Your Procedure
If you are undergoing a deeper or more intense laser peel, you may be asked to use a topical retinoid for a few weeks prior to your laser treatment. This is usually the case if the laser is targeting an area of the face where the skin tends to be more sensitive. This helps prepare the skin better for the effects of the laser. If your skin needs mild correction, a topical anesthetic will be used to numb certain areas where the laser will target. During the procedure, you will relax in our treatment chair, and the laser will glide over the skin, precisely targeting the designated areas for improvement. You will feel heat followed by coolness from the built-in cooling system of the device. The laser works to destroy damaged skin cells while also stimulating new collagen growth.
What to Expect
After your laser skin resurfacing treatment, a healing ointment will be applied to the skin and you can return home to recover. The skin will appear red, and there will be some irritation and swelling. This subsides within a couple of days, and the peeling process will begin over a 3 – 5-day timeframe. If you are undergoing a more intense laser treatment, your downtime may be longer. The downtime associated with a deeper peel can be 2 – 3 weeks. All patients should limit their sun exposure after their laser treatment and apply sun protection regularly. Regardless of the intensity of the peel, the skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel away. It is important to not assist this process to both avoid scarring and to protect your face at all times from sun exposure. Once the peeling process has been completed, your skin will feel softer while looking clearer, younger, and rejuvenated.
